Self-taught, Anna Hulagan ‘discovered’ hula hooping in the US. What followed was nothing short of an infectious obsession to share her love of hula hooping, dancing and performing. Everyone can hoop, you just need the right hula hoop and an instructor that NEEDS you to know the joys of spinning around, and around, and around, until you’re dizzy with silly! It’s likely that if you’ve ever been to a hoop class in the UK, the inspiration for that teacher would trace back to Anna.
In 2013, Anna founded HULAFIT, creating the first hula hoop teacher training qualification in the UK, helping others to teach fitness through hooping. Dragon’s Den came calling, and the company was sold to a fellow hooper in 2019. Grace Jones has even hooped with one of her hoops. Buzzfeed became as obsessed with her classes as everyone else. Time Out stuck her on a billboard. She even created the first hula hoop festival in the UK – the London Hoop Fest, bringing hundreds of hoop lovers together to learn from the very best hula hoop teachers in the world.
After the pandemic, Anna took a hiatus from hula hooping and turned her hand to writing. She’s worked in a writer’s room to create a 6-episode TV series, as well writing blog posts for charities, volunteering at the exceptional Ministry of Stories, achieved a Distinction from RADA in writing, and loves nothing more than working with small, grass-root companies, artists and activists to market and promote the good fight on social media.
